Zion
by Chloe Ferres

This book is an exploration in grief. A photo album when no photographs exists. A document of a life not lived.

Contemporary society is uncomfortable with grief—we don’t know how to talk about it, and we expect it to end in a reasonable time frame. However, “some things cannot be fixed, they can only be carried,” writes grief advocate Megan Devine.

This is the discovery of light in the deepest darkness, the power of images and music when there are no words. Perhaps photography offers a tangible trace of the real, but it’s also just fleeting light in in this fleeting life.

“How rare and beautiful is it to even exist.” — Sleeping at Last

Ectopic Plants
by Chloe Ferres

This is a collection of ectopic—out of place—plants. Once you start looking, it’s easy to find them, thriving in cracks and crevices, in quiet landscapes or bustling cities. Some of my favourites can be seen along unkempt rail lines, where an abundance of inaccessible space gives life to unorthodox green communities—waterfalls of plants spill out of suburban gardens, mounds of waste provide a stage for colourful floral displays, leaves like ghosts emerge through walls, an array of vegetation takes over, and linear barriers begin to melt away…

Approximately 1% of pregnancies are ectopic—out of place. Ectopic pregnancy is a leading cause of maternal death in early pregnancy. The maternal mortality rate is around ten times higher in the developing world. Nothing can be done to save ectopic babies.

Life—fragile and abundant—blooms in unexpected places.

Pelči Manor

Shot over three days in the attic of Pelči Manor – a grand,19th-century, art nouveau structure in the small Latvian town of Kuldīga – the second book by young Australian photographer Sarah Walker offers an ominous, curious and claustrophobic vantage on this historically loaded building. The site where Latvia ceded independence to Nazi occupation during World War II, today the building is used as a school for disabled children.

The Hedgehog And The Foxes

The Hedgehog And The Foxes documents 48 hours in the life of the world's most recognisable porn star, Ron Jeremy, as he visits a series of staged parties. The book aims to tell the story through form as well as imagery, so the reader is requires to unwrap several protective layers before arriving at a disappointing, small and limp softcover book. So despite the gloss and fun on the outside, what's inside is somewhat empty.
